I was a Washington High School student from 2002 - 2003. At this time Washington High school was a very strong Neighborhood Crip, and Hispanic click school. A few gangs I saw at school on a daily basis were Rollin 60's, Rolling 50's (55), I was repping Rollin 30's (My family's gang), 1 Menlo Neighborhood. We generally didn't see any Rollin 100's at the school but older guys came in to hang with young crowd who lived in the area from Underground Crip. 107 Hoovers intimidated the surrounding area and rarely did you see these NHC's walking around the perimeter of the school. I do remember just once one of the more famous young R60's catch the bus and I was quite shocked to see him on the bus with me but I only did that to go to a friends house as I lived close to the school area.
Everyday leaving school was pretty scary. It was the thought in your head that anything can and will go down and hopefully you can talk your young way out. One Hoover at the time robbed a friend for his leather Averix coat at gunpoint. Many that coat was nice and I told him not to wear it because I mean this was a $200 coat and he was tall so I know it was a lot of guys size.
I had a lot of stories going to WHS which simply was a stressful school to attend if you didn't stay in class at all times, and sometimes if the wrong kid was in class with you it was no better. Well being the hard head I was at the time I ditched a lot, and given the school is so big we had fun avoiding school security as the coordinated our capture over walkie's. I remember Principle Noble was head at the time driving around in the golf carts in his suit chasing down bad kids.
I remember no earring policy where jewelry stopped being allowed to change kids attitude about the purpose of going to school. I remember a kid refusing to put his earrings in the envelope because he said they were real diamonds and he wouldn't allow them to be bunched up with the others.
One kid named Daniel perfectly innocent kid was gunned down around the school area after school who was tall with a really young personality, and loved basketball. I knew him well and loved talking to the goofy giant. Apparently story went around that he died with his basketball in his hand. That story still hurts me to this day.
I ditched all the time to get out of that area and simply bused to Santa Monica to hang out on the beach. To this day I'm glad I'm did it which made my mom very suspicious seeing me come back home with sun burn everyday.
I remember when we left school we always avoided Hoover's hood no matter what, although we had to walk down Normandie so the student tried not to venture deep, although you needed to go to library and such things.
The Taco Bell was pretty fun place or Taco El Unico where you could get a cheap snack after school was a good hangout. We frequently saw Budlong Crips shenanigans.
The girls were great, we had a lot of fun having so many girls at WHS but some were just sad stories. I wish their parents had taught them something but it wasn't uncommon for some of our friends parents to be drug addicts leaving their kids to practically raise themselves and be the talk of the adults quite often.
Eight Trays were the big gang in that area but I honestly didn't see many around the Normandie area unless my friend who lived on the corner of 87th told me stories about them. I remember when I moved to Inglewood at 16 I would sometimes because of money issues have to walk all the way to Manchester before I could get on the bus and most of the time although I was weary didn't really see much at all.
I lived on 101st and Vermont until than and though Hoovers aren't a big gang, they were the gang I saw all the crazy stuff go down with. Old Man Crump we used to call him told me about a Hoover walking down a street with his semi automatic hand in plain sight as he walked to his target. I did hear the shooting standing outside, and even heard the scream of bullets although the shooting had to be a lot further down the street possibly in an exchange with Budlongs.
I remember seeing the Hispanic NC or No Control / Night Creepers everyday, which were mostly a family gang who I never had any issues with. In fact we thought they were pretty cool for a really tough small gang. I also wonder today if they have a connection to the Carson Night Creepers
I remember a guy who wanted to be from 99 Mafia and he was telling me about his plans to be jumped on the gang back then who went to WHS and I remember asking why he wanted to do so with such a small gang and I don't remember his answer. Dude was def a pretty boy light skin guy with hazel eyes and curly hair. But it didn't matter to him, his mind was made up that he needed to bang
My friend lived in the 92 Hoovers so after school most of the time we went to house where a lot of OG hoover hung out though I didn't see a lot necessarily besides older gang members.
There were a few low key bloods at WHS and one was one of my best friends at the time who was a Fruit Town Brims. Given that I was banging 30's on my family's behalf though I had no real connection to the gang we joked around a lot and he knew I wasn't really from 30's it was just to keep the gangs at bay or get a little respect. His cousin also came to the school and looked really ruff. They banged on him first day we joined us and he told the truth he was a Brim, but from what I understand the NHC's didn't care too much about FTB's as they considered them to be 30's problem. They were really stand up guys by the way, never looked for trouble but knew how to deal with it.
One incident where a guy came to the PE lot his first day of school and I think this was first week of Track C which was my track he had red rags tied all over him. We all stood insulted because it was a Crip school and didn't like it. Well the real Crips came to me and a friend and asked if we banged. I said I didn't and my boy sheisty didn't but insisted "this Crip tho!", thinking back to what that may imply I laugh to this day thinking to myself what does that even mean. Either way Shiesty agreed to bang on him and he did. The guy said he was from PJ Watts Crip and Shiesty asked why he was wearing all the red rags than, which the guy replied I wear what I want to wear. So Shiesty and I reported the exchange and they walked up to him and the main gangmember who asked us to do it told him you not from PJ's I'm from PJ's so they skirmished for just a few moments before security came and walked the guy out. We never saw him again... Word was he was from Inglewood Family's and was coming back with backup after school, I never saw Shiesty so scared lol. He kept asking me to make sure I had his back if they came. I heard vaguely about the IFG's to that point but I knew they weren't anything to play with. We never saw them by the way...
The word blood at WHS was almost like a myth or legend as we almost never saw or heard of any. I went to a private High School in Compton that had one WS Piru but that was it to that point. I didn't know the extent of what to expect from a blood or where they could be found. Denver Lanes were across Vermont so it was my assumption that I probably would never meet a blood in my life besides my friend from FTB which was damn near downtown L.A. in my mind.
Interesting enough I moved to Inglewood and my entire perspective on the existence of bloods would soon change my role as a thug in Ing was bigger so when I have the energy I'll share my IHS experience hoping to keep it anonymous.
Did you go to WHS? What was your experience like?
